Biography
Smt. Uma Sathya Narayanan (also known as Uma Nambudripad Sathyanarayanan) is a Bharatanatyam dancer, Carnatic vocalist, and choreographer based in Chennai. She began her training at the age of six in Nagpur and later trained under Smt. Chitra Visweswaran at the Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts. She has also received training in Kuchipudi from Sri Jayarama Rao and Smt. Vanashree Rao, and in Carnatic music from Smt. Rajeswari Neelakanthan and Pandit Sri R. Visweswaran.
Her training includes nattuvangam, dance music, voice culture, and stagecraft, contributing to her approach as a performer. She is known for combining dance and music knowledge within her performances and for her work as a soloist across leading sabhas in Chennai, including a performance at The Madras Music Academy.
Uma Sathya Narayanan has received recognitions such as the Yuva Kala Bharathi award from Bharat Kalachar and prizes from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and Narada Gana Sabha. She is also associated with teaching and choreography through her institution, Vishuddhi Arts.
Her work includes thematic productions and continued participation in festivals and curated performances, reflecting engagement with both traditional repertoire and structured presentations within the Bharatanatyam format.
