Biography

Supriyo Dutta stands among the finest voices of Hindustani classical music, admired for his soul-touching renditions and command over a rich repertoire that includes Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, and Bhajan. Alongside performance, he is also a thoughtful composer, bringing clarity and emotion to every musical form he touches.

His musical foundation was shaped under legendary mentors—Pandit Ramkrishna Basu of the Indore gharana, Padmashri Pandit Vijay Kumar Kichlu, and Vidushi Subhra Guha. At present, he continues to refine his art under the guidance of Padmabhushan Pandit Arvind Parikh. This lineage has given him a deep understanding of raga, rhythm, and expression, allowing him to balance innovation with tradition.

As a student, Supriyo Dutta was a National Scholar under the Ministry of Culture and earned a Gold Medal from the Governor for securing the highest position in his master’s degree. He also received a Gold Medal from Sarbo Bharatiya Sangeet o Sanskriti Parishad and has been honored with many other awards and recognitions. He is an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

His performances span India and international stages across Europe, Australia, China, and the United States. He has appeared at leading platforms such as Sangeet Natak Akademi, India International Centre, ICCR, NABC, MITHAS, Learnquest, Woodford Festival in Australia, Filarmonica Romana, Deutsch-Indische Gesellschaft in Germany, MERU, the International Music Festival in Colombo, and Shenzhen University in China. He became the first Indian vocalist to perform at the President’s Palace in Rome.

Beyond the stage, Supriyo Dutta is a committed educator, nurturing young musicians and carrying forward the classical tradition. In 2020, his film Ustad Amir Khan—The Pathbreaking Modernist won an award at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival. He has also directed several documentaries on Hindustani music and worked as a music director and playback singer, extending his contribution across multiple creative fields.
