Sruti Sarathy

Sruti Sarathy is a Carnatic violinist, vocalist, and composer associated with the South Indian classical tradition, with an active presence in the global diaspora. Trained from the age of three under Anuradha Sridhar of the Lalgudi lineage, she has also studied Hindustani music under Kala Ramnath.

Her work extends beyond conventional concert formats, incorporating elements from Carnatic and Hindustani music, spoken word, literature, and theater. As a composer, she develops original works for voice and instrumental ensembles, exploring themes related to South Asian diasporic identity and contemporary contexts.

She has received support through fellowships and grants, including a Fulbright Scholarship (2016), and has collaborated with artists across musical and performance traditions. Her projects include compositions for dance and theater, as well as her ensemble initiative, Carnatic Crossings.

As a performer, she has presented concerts at major venues and festivals in India and internationally, including appearances at the Music Academy (Chennai) and other cultural platforms. She has also received recognition, such as the Best Violinist award from the Madras Music Academy.

Alongside performance and composition, her work reflects ongoing engagement with improvisation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and evolving approaches within the Carnatic music framework.
