Dr. Soundarya Srivatsa is a Bengaluru-based Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, known for her Pandanallur style, academic research, and contributions to performance and dance education.

Biography

Dr. Soundarya Srivatsa is a Bengaluru-based Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and educator, recognized for her strong grounding in the Pandanallur bani and her scholarly approach to classical dance. A gold medalist in her master's degree, she also holds a Ph.D. from Bangalore University, where her research explored the relationship between classical dance and cinema. She trained under Guru B. Bhanumathi and has developed a performance style marked by precision, depth, and expressive clarity.

She co-leads Narthana Keerthana, a music and dance institution, along with her husband, Vidwan D.S. Srivathsa, a noted Carnatic vocalist. Through this platform, she has trained numerous students while also creating thematic dance productions. Her notable choreographic works include Tyagaraja, Padmanabha Namostuthe, Jagadananda Karaka, and the solo presentation Ambe, reflecting her engagement with both devotional and classical repertoire.

In recent years, Dr. Soundarya Srivatsa has remained actively involved in performances, teaching, and curation. She mentored students for the Kalarpana Festival (Sri Tyagaraja Aradhane) in 2026, performed at the Pravaha Dance Festival at NCPA Mumbai in 2025, and contributed to international teaching initiatives such as the Bhavan London Summer School. Her disciples continue to perform globally, extending her artistic lineage, while her own work continues to feature in major festivals and curated presentations across India and abroad.
