Biography
Shweta Prachande is an acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer of the new generation, recognized for her energetic dynamism and refined technical precision. Trained under the eminent Priyadarsini Govind, she has developed a nuanced approach that balances classical grammar with a contemporary sensibility. Her early training began at the age of five under Sucheta Chapekar at the Kalavardhini Dance Institute, laying a strong foundation in traditional practice.
Expanding her artistic vocabulary beyond Bharatanatyam, Shweta has studied Kalaripayattu and Yoga, integrating physical discipline and movement diversity into her performances. She also holds a diploma in Contemporary Dance Studies from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, reflecting her engagement with global dance practices. Over the years, she has performed at prominent platforms such as the Music Academy Dance Festival and the Commonwealth Festival in Malé, establishing her presence across national and international stages.
Her contributions have been recognized with the prestigious National Bal Shree Honor, awarded by former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Beyond performance, she is actively involved in arts philanthropy as a trustee of the Sumanasa Foundation, supporting marginalized artists through workshops and initiatives. Based in Chennai since 2005, Shweta continues to contribute to the evolving landscape of Indian classical dance while maintaining close ties to the broader artistic community, including her association with Carnatic musician Rithvik Raja.
