Shruthiranjani Kanchana

Vid. Kanchana S. Shriranjani is a Carnatic classical vocalist, known as one half of the Kanchana Sisters (also called the Kanchana Ranjani Sisters), a widely recognized duet in the classical music fraternity. She is part of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) panel of artists and has performed on major platforms in India and internationally.

Initiated into music at the age of three by her father, the violinist Kanchana V. Subbarathnam, she began performing concerts from the age of four. Shriranjani specializes in Avadhana Pallavi, a highly complex form involving intricate tala structures, including rare and ancient cycles such as Simhanandana and Sharabhanandana. This work has also been documented academically at the University of Hyderabad.

She holds first rank in Vidwath degrees in Carnatic Classical Vocal and Violin from the Government of Karnataka and is an “A” graded artist of All India Radio (AIR). Alongside her academic achievements in law, she has received senior performer scholarships from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and other institutions. She is also a recipient of the Kalaavathamsa award and a fellowship from the Ministry of Culture.

As a performer, Shriranjani has appeared at leading sabhas, cultural institutions, and festivals, with concerts broadcast on Doordarshan and other television channels. Her repertoire extends beyond classical concerts to include thematic productions, devotional music, and collaborative works, contributing to a diverse and sustained presence in the Carnatic music field.
