Biography
Shri Ghani Mohammed was born on 17 April 1955 in a village in Bikaner district, Rajasthan. He began his musical training under the guidance of his father, Ustad Sirajudeen Khan. His early learning was rooted in the Mand singing tradition, a folk vocal style of western Rajasthan that is prominent in regions such as Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer.
He performs as part of a long-standing duo with his brother, Shri Ali Mohammed. Their repertoire focuses on Mand and related Rajasthani folk forms. Over time, they have worked to sustain and transmit this tradition through performance and teaching. Their recorded output includes albums such as Kesariya Balam, Supno, Moomal, and Kuijan.
Shri Ghani Mohammed has appeared on national and international stages and on radio and television. He and his brother have served as judges on television programs and have undertaken music direction for Indian cinema. Their projects have included albums featuring playback and devotional singers across genres. His recognitions include a State Level Award from the Government of Rajasthan (2022), the Allah Jila Bai Award (2019–20), the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2022–23), and an honor from the District Administration of Bikaner in 2018.
