Biography
Pt. Shounak Abhisheki belongs to a distinguished musical lineage and carries forward the legacy of his father, the renowned composer and vocalist Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki. As both son and disciple, his journey has been shaped by close training within the home tradition, along with formal guidance from Smt. Kamaltai Tambe of the Jaipur Gharana. His music reflects a thoughtful blend of the Agra and Jaipur styles, combining strength, structure, and melodic sensitivity.
Beyond traditional recital formats, Shounak has developed a series of thematic presentations that draw from his father’s vast compositional work. Programmes such as Swarabhishek, Tulsi Ke Ram, Kabir, and Abhang bring togethera classical framework with devotional and literary expression. These concerts present Hindustani music as both an art form and a narrative, connecting raga, poetry, and philosophy in a single performance space.
Shounak has performed at leading music festivals across India and has taken Indian classical music to international audiences through concert tours in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, the Persian Gulf, and Thailand. His recordings have been released by major labels including Sony Music, Music Today, Times Music, Ninad Music, Music Curry, and Fountain Music, marking a sustained presence in the recorded archive of contemporary Hindustani music.
His contribution has been recognised through several cultural honours, including Pune Ki Asha Puraskar, Balgandharva Puraskar, Zee Gaurav Puraskar, NCPA Excellence Award, Pt. Dinanath Mangeshkar Puraskar by Marathi Natyaparishad, Saraswatibai Rane Puraskar, and the Symbiosis University Cultural Award.
