About
Biography
Savani Talwalkar’s musical journey is rooted in a respected tradition of tabla playing, shaped through early initiation under the guidance of her father and guru, Suresh Talwalkar. Growing up in an environment steeped in classical music, she absorbed the nuances of rhythm, repertoire, and performance aesthetics from an early age, laying a strong foundation for her artistic development.
She soon emerged as a noteworthy young talent, performing at prominent classical music festivals organized by leading institutions across India and internationally. As a soloist, her presentations reflect command over technique, structured improvisation, and a mature understanding of laya. As an accompanist, she is valued for her responsiveness and ability to enhance the musical dialogue with vocalists and instrumentalists alike.
In addition to concert performances, Savani Talwalkar has actively participated in seminars and workshops dedicated to tabla, contributing to her broader musical understanding and pedagogy. She has also made several recordings, documenting her work across different performance contexts.
Her contributions have been recognised with significant honours, including the Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Award conferred by the Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Memorial Foundation, Chinchwad, and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awarded by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2012. Through sustained performance and continued engagement with tradition, Savani Talwalkar remains an important voice among contemporary tabla artists.
