Saurabh Vartak

Saurabh Vartak’s musical development reflects a blend of rigorous instrumental study and deep inspiration drawn from leading figures in Indian classical music. His initial training on the harmonium under Shri Madhav Marne enabled him to understand melody, phrasing, and the subtleties of raga interpretation. This early foundation proved valuable when he transitioned to the bansuri, where breath control and emotional expression became central to his artistic growth.

The turning point in Vartak’s life occurred at the Sawai Gandharva Music Festival in Pune, where a live recital by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia revealed to him the expressive depth of the flute. Motivated by this experience, he sought direct guidance from the acclaimed flautist and later became one of his students. Learning under such a distinguished guru placed Vartak within a respected performance lineage and opened opportunities to share the stage with Panditji at major concerts and cultural events.

Outside music, Vartak completed a formal education in electronics and telecommunication, but his primary contribution remains to the classical performance arena. His playing reflects the rich tone, stylistic clarity, and lyrical approach associated with the Hariprasad Chaurasia school of flute. He continues to appear in concerts across India, engaging audiences with his dedication to the bansuri and the evolving traditions of Hindustani classical music.

Through performance, mentorship, and continued study, Saurabh Vartak maintains a growing presence within the classical music community, representing a new generation carrying forward the bansuri’s legacy.
