About
Biography
Sarah Sangeetha is an internationally trained dancer whose artistic practice reflects a deep engagement with both Indian classical traditions and global movement languages. Born and raised in Switzerland, she began her journey in Bharatanatyam at the age of six. Her foundational training culminated in her Arangetram in 2009, presented in Zurich under the guidance of Vid. D. Keshava, marking the formal beginning of her professional path.
Seeking rigorous immersion in the classical tradition, Sarah spent several years in India pursuing advanced studies. She completed her Master of Arts in Bharatanatyam from KSGH Music and Performing Arts University, Mysore, followed by Nrityasali, an intensive postgraduate program focused on the Natyashastra and its Karanas under the renowned scholar Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam in Chennai. Since 2013, she has continued her artistic refinement under the tutelage of the acclaimed dance duo Renjith & Vijna, while also benefiting from guidance by Smt. Indira Kadambi and the late Sri Bhagavatulu Seetharam Sharma.
Alongside her Indian classical training, Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts diploma in Music and Movement from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Her academic formation includes Western classical music, composition, pedagogy, and contemporary dance techniques such as Laban, Graham, Limón, and Contact Improvisation. This strong musical grounding, combined with her ability to play multiple instruments, informs her approach to rhythm, structure, and embodied musicality in dance.
Her movement vocabulary is further enriched by long-term training in the martial art Kalaripayattu and additional exposure to jazz, hip hop, salsa, Lindy Hop, and folk dance forms. Since 2017, Sarah has been leading her own institution near Zurich—originally Sangeetha and now known as Nrtya Sangeetha Art Space—where she teaches Bharatanatyam and Bharatanrityam through in-person and online formats, workshops, modules, and performances.
From 2018 to 2023, Sarah was a dancer with London-based Seeta Patel Dance, touring internationally as part of The Rite of Spring, a critically acclaimed Bharatanatyam reimagining of Stravinsky’s iconic composition. In addition to her performance and teaching career, she has contributed to the cultural ecosystem as a member of the Executive Committee of Swiss Natya Sabha, supporting the promotion of Indian performing arts in Switzerland.
