Biography

Sanjoy Das, popularly known in the industry as Bapi, is recognized for an adaptable and nuanced guitar style that supports both classically influenced melodies and modern popular soundscapes. Driven by a long-held belief that his “life belongs to six strings,” he has built a career that spans studio sessions, live tours, and cross-genre collaborations within the wider Indian music scene.

 

A sought-after performer, Sanjoy has toured with a wide spectrum of distinguished vocalists and instrumentalists, including Hariharan, Pankaj Udhas, the late Jagjit Singh, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Shankar Mahadevan, and Ustad Zakir Hussain. His interactions with leading percussionists such as Bickram Ghosh, Tanmoy Bose, Shivamani, Greg Ellis, V. Suresh, and Pete Lockett further highlight his role in Indian classical fusion and world music ensembles. Internationally, he has featured at the South African Jazz Fest, WOMEX Music Festival, Wind of Change (Bangladesh), and the 57th Idea Filmfare Awards Concert.

 

Alongside live work, Sanjoy is established in the Bollywood film industry, contributing guitar and arrangements for a wide range of composers, including Vishal–Shekhar, Pritam, Ram Sampath, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Tony Kakkar, Ismail Darbar, and A. R. Rahman. His presence on acclaimed television and digital music platforms—including MTV Unplugged and Coke Studio—reflects a career engaged with multiple generations of audiences.
