Sandesh Shandilya

Sandesh Shandilya is a well-known Indian music composer, singer, and arranger who has made a significant contribution to Hindi film music. He is especially recognized for his melodious compositions and his ability to blend classical influences with contemporary Bollywood styles.

Sandesh Shandilya was born on 19 February 1968 in Agra, India.  From a young age, he showed a strong inclination toward music and later pursued formal training under the legendary sarangi maestro Ustad Sultan Khan. This training played a crucial role in shaping his musical understanding, particularly in Indian classical traditions. His grounding in classical music is reflected in the depth and emotional richness of his compositions.

He began gaining recognition in the Indian music industry in the early 2000s. His major breakthrough came with the blockbuster Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). In this film, he composed several popular songs such as “Suraj Hua Maddham,” “You Are My Soniya,” and “Deewana Hai Dekho.” These songs became huge hits and contributed to the film’s massive commercial success. The soundtrack itself sold millions of copies and established Sandesh Shandilya as a promising composer in Bollywood. 

Apart from film music, he also achieved great success with his independent music album Piya Basanti. The album became widely popular and even won the International Viewers’ Choice Award at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2001. This achievement brought him international recognition and highlighted his versatility as a composer. 

Over the years, Sandesh Shandilya has composed music for several films including Chameli (2004), Socha Na Tha (2005), and Jab We Met (2007). One of his most appreciated works is the song “Aaoge Jab Tum” from Jab We Met, which is known for its emotional depth and classical touch. His compositions are often characterized by soft melodies, meaningful lyrics, and a strong emotional appeal.
