Sam Evans

Sam Evans is an Australian tabla artist, composer, researcher, and educator dedicated to advancing Indian classical music and intercultural musical exchange. Based in Melbourne, he trained extensively under Pandit Anindo Chatterjee in Kolkata and Ustad Zakir Hussain in the United States. As a performer, he presents both traditional Indian classical music and contemporary world music on international stages. He is the founder of the Melbourne Tabla School and the first Australian to earn a PhD in tabla studies. Alongside performance, he composes for film, television, and collaborative music projects while actively promoting Indian music education through universities, schools, workshops, and lecture demonstrations across Australia.
