S Sunil Kumar

S. Sunil Kumar is a Kanjira artist from Chennai with training rooted in both classical percussion and konnakol. He began learning thalam and basic rhythmic lessons from his father, Triplicane K. Sekar, before undertaking formal Kanjira study with V. Selvaganesh and konnakol training under ghatam maestro T. H. Vikku Vinayakram. He is an A-grade artist of All India Radio and has performed in a wide range of Carnatic, fusion, and percussion-focused concerts.

Sunil Kumar has accompanied several leading musicians, including A. K. C. Natarajan, Prof. T. N. Krishnan, Dr. T. V. Gopalakrishnan, Vikku Vinayakram, Guruvayur Dorai, A. Kanyakumari, Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Bombay Jayashri, and Sudha Raghunathan. His work includes solo Kanjira performances, jugalbandi concerts, thalavadhya ensembles, and appearances at sabhas such as Krishna Gana Sabha, Music Academy, and Brahma Gana Sabha. He has participated in national programmes, Nadaneeranjanam telecast,s and fusion collaborations with various bands.

His awards include the Thethakudi Harihara Sharma Percussion Award (2011), the Asthana Vidwan title from Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam (2013), and the Yuva Kala Bharathi honor from Bharath Kalachar (2013). He has also been active in recordings, television programs, and international concert tours.
