S Karthick

Dr. S. Karthick, widely known as Ghatam Karthick, is an Indian percussionist recognized for his mastery of the ghatam, a traditional clay pot percussion instrument central to Carnatic music. Known for his energetic stage presence, rhythmic precision, and creative improvisation, he has established himself as one of the prominent ghatam artists of his generation. His performances often combine technical finesse with expressive artistry, making him a widely sought-after accompanist and ensemble performer.

Karthick received his training under legendary ghatam maestros Sri T. H. Vikku Vinayakram and Sri T. H. Subash Chandran, whose musical legacy he continues to carry forward. Over the years, he has collaborated with numerous leading Carnatic musicians and has appeared in concerts and festivals across India and internationally. In addition to classical concerts, he has also participated in projects connected with the Indian film industry and has collaborated with several international artists, contributing to cross-genre musical explorations.

Apart from his performance career, Dr. S. Karthick is also a composer, educator, and ensemble leader. He leads the musical group Heartbeat Ensemble, through which he presents compositions and collaborative works that bring together classical and contemporary influences. Academically, he holds a PhD in Sanskrit under the guidance of Dr. S. Ramaratnam, along with a master's degree in music. As a composer, he has created several Tillanas, Kritis, Varnams, and fusion compositions, reflecting his continued engagement with both the traditional and evolving aspects of Indian percussion music.
