Biography

Rekesh Chauhan is a British Indian pianist, composer, and cultural figure whose music seamlessly brings together Indian classical aesthetics and Western musical forms. A fourth-generation member of the Indian diaspora, his work reflects both heritage and contemporary global soundscapes, making him a prominent voice in modern world music.

He has performed internationally at leading venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Cadogan Hall, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. His performances are known for their clarity, emotional depth, and strong rhythmic and melodic balance.

Chauhan’s contributions have been recognized at the highest levels. He received the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s Birthday Honours 2023 for services to music. The UK Prime Minister has personally commended him for his award-winning arts production supporting the British Asian Trust. In 2022, he was appointed Ambassador of Future Talent, a charity founded by HRH The Duchess of Kent.

His awards include NIAA Young Musician of the Year (2018), the Eastern Electronica Prize, and University of Leicester Alumnus of the Year (2019). His debut album Beyond Roots (2015) received critical acclaim and national BBC radio play, followed by a sold-out UK tour. His later release, Avartan (2018), reached No. 2 on the iTunes World Music Charts.

Rekesh has collaborated with leading global and Indian artists, including Talvin Singh OBE, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shankar Mahadevan, and Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra. Alongside his musical career, he holds a first-class degree in economics, is a published co-author, a guest columnist, and a recognized India-UK young leader, regularly contributing to cultural dialogue and international collaboration through music.
