Rattan Mohan Sharma, born in Rajasthan in 1971, belongs to the illustrious Mewati gharana, a lineage that includes celebrated vocalists such as Motiram, Maniram, Pratap Narayan, and Pandit Jasraj. Introduced to music at an early age, he initially developed a strong interest in rhythm and practiced tabla during his formative years, which contributed to his refined sense of laya. His formal vocal training was shaped under the lifelong guidance of his uncle and guru, Pandit Jasraj, whose influence is evident in Sharma’s approach to raga development, voice control, and devotional intensity.
As a performer, Rattan Mohan Sharma is known for his versatility across genres. His classical presentations of khyal and tarana are marked by clarity of swara and a measured, expressive style, while his renditions of Haveli Sangeet, bhajans, and folk-based compositions emphasize bhava and lyrical devotion. He has performed extensively at major music festivals and concert platforms in India and internationally, including regular appearances at the Pandit Motiram–Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh.
