Rajendra Nakod

Pandit Rajendra Nakod’s musical journey is shaped by a deep-rooted family legacy in Hindustani classical music. He received his early guidance from his father, Pandit Arjunsa Nakod, an eminent vocalist, and later trained in tabla under his brothers, Pandit Raghunath Nakod and Pandit Vishwanath Nakod. This close-knit guru–shishya environment, influenced by the Gwalior and Kirana gharanas, gave him a strong grounding in both rhythmic structure and melodic awareness, which continues to define his approach to accompaniment.

Recognized as an A-grade artiste of All India Radio, Rajendra Nakod has built a wide-ranging performance career that spans traditional classical recitals, jugalbandis, and cross-genre collaborations. He has accompanied several eminent musicians from the Indian classical world, including renowned vocalists and instrumentalists, and is known for his long-standing musical association with sitarist Ustad Rafique Khan. His work also extends into contemporary and global music settings, where his command over complex rhythmic cycles and improvisation allows him to adapt seamlessly without compromising classical integrity.

A key aspect of his artistic identity is his engagement with fusion music through the ensemble Shiva—The Musical Thunder, where he explores dialogue between Indian rhythm and modern musical forms. His recorded work, including classical releases with international labels, further highlights his ability to combine discipline, sensitivity, and expressive freedom. Today, Pandit Rajendra Nakod is regarded as a versatile tabla accompanist whose performances reflect both tradition and thoughtful innovation, making him a respected presence on concert stages in India and abroad.
