Raghuram Rajagopalan

Raghuram Rajagopalan is a distinguished Carnatic vocalist, composer, recording artist, and educator, hailing from a notable musical lineage. His father, the late Vid. R. A. Rajagopalan, was a respected mridangam and ghatam player, while his mother, Smt. Rama fostered a strong appreciation for Carnatic music in their home. Raghuram began his musical journey at the tender age of three, learning the mridangam under his father’s guidance, and at five, he was formally introduced to Carnatic vocal music by Vid. Chingamani. He later enhanced his vocal skills through advanced training with prominent artists, including Ganakalabhooshana R. A. Ramamani and T. A. S. Mani. Additionally, he received in-depth training in Sugama Sangeetha from Vid—Pusthakam Rama, which contributed to his versatile musical background.

Raghuram launched his concert career at sixteen and has since graced numerous esteemed venues, including Bangalore Gayana Samaja, Malleshwaram Sangeeta Sabha, R. K. Srikantan Trust, Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, and TTD’s Nada Neerajanam. He has been honoured with the Pratibhakankshi Award from Rama Seva Mandali and is particularly recognised for his expertise in manodharma sangeetha, showcasing exceptional vocal improvisation and intricate rhythmic patterns. He is a frequent performer on platforms such as All India Radio and Doordarshan, and has collaborated on projects such as the Indo-French fusion album Rhythm n Raga. Additionally, he has composed music for various dance productions and ballets and lent his voice as a playback singer for films and television series. An active participant in major festivals both in India and internationally, Raghuram is also dedicated to teaching Carnatic vocals and mentoring students from around the globe.
