Biography
Dr. Radha Bhaskar is a Carnatic classical vocalist, musicologist, educator, and journalist based in Chennai. Born in Kolkata, she began her training in Carnatic music at the age of four. Her principal gurus include Jaya Shankar, Vairamangalam Lakshminarayan, and the late P. S. Narayanaswamy.
She holds a doctorate in music from Madras University, where her research focused on the structure and presentation of Carnatic music concerts. Along with her husband, noted mridangam artist Mudhra Bhaskar, she co-founded Mudhra, a cultural organization dedicated to the promotion of performing arts.
In the field of arts journalism, Dr. Radha Bhaskar served as the editor of the fine arts magazine Samudhra for over seventeen years. She is also well known for her Music Appreciation Programmes (MAP), designed to help listeners understand the theoretical and aesthetic aspects of Carnatic music.
She conceptualized and presented “CM 365 – All About Carnatic Music,” an extensive educational video series offering daily insights into various elements of Carnatic music. Her work has been recognized with several honors, including Kala Seva Bharathi, Yuvakala Bharathi, and the Best Musicologist Award from Narada Gana Sabha.
