Nikshit Puttur

Vid. Puttur Nikshith is an accomplished Mridangam artist whose performances are noted for clarity, precision, and a strong command of laya (rhythm). He has established himself as a dependable and frequently featured accompanist for vocal and instrumental Carnatic concerts.

He began his training in Mridangam under Vid. Kukkila Shankara Bhat later continued advanced learning under senior gurus, refining both technique and performance aesthetics.

Nikshith is particularly recognized for his structured and engaging tani avartanam (solo percussion segments), where he demonstrates rhythmic depth while maintaining concert sensitivity. Over the years, he has shared the stage with leading Carnatic musicians, including violinists Lalgudi G. J. R. Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi.

Collaborations & Performances
He frequently performs alongside his wife, Y. G. Srilatha Nikshith, a noted Veena artist. The duo is often presented as the “Musical Couple,” offering Veena–Mridangam duet concerts across prominent platforms.

Their performances have been featured at events such as the Sree Ramanavami Global Music Festival and concerts organized by the Ragavalli Foundation. They have also appeared at international venues, including performances in Germany, as well as temple festivals such as those held in Melukote.

Artistic Contributions
In addition to performance, Nikshith has contributed to composition. Notably, he composed a Thillana in Raga Sumanesha Ranjani for the dance production Gou Mahima.

He comes from a literary and cultural lineage and is the grandson of K. P. Puthuraya. He has also collaborated with him in Gayana-Vyakhyana presentations, which combine music with interpretative discourse.
