Biography
Priya Sisters, comprising Shanmukhapriya and Haripriya, are respected exponents of Carnatic music from Andhra Pradesh. Born in Chittoor, they began their musical training under their father, Sri V. V. Subbaram, who later moved to Chennai to provide them with broader exposure in the classical music circuit.
They continued their advanced training under the renowned duo Radha Jayalakshmi, disciples of the legendary G. N. Balasubramaniam. This mentorship shaped their emphasis on clarity of diction, precision in raga exposition, and disciplined rendition of kritis. They later refined their repertoire further under Professor T. R. Subramaniam, learning complex pallavis and rare compositions.
The Priya Sisters belong to the strong tradition of duo singing in Carnatic music, following earlier pioneers such as Soolamangalam Sisters and Bombay Sisters. Known for their synchronized delivery and classical authenticity, they continue to be prominent performers on leading Carnatic music stages in India and abroad.
