Pravin Godkhindi

Pravin Godkhindi represents a rare blend of tradition, technical mastery, and contemporary innovation within Indian classical music. Trained exclusively by his father, Pandit Venkatesh Godkhindi, he grew up within the Kirana gharana’s vocal-influenced approach to the bansuri. His own explorations later expanded this foundation to include advanced tantrakari techniques, giving his music a balance of melodic depth and rhythmic complexity. In addition to formal Hindustani training, he has engaged meaningfully with Carnatic, Western classical, and jazz idioms, which have shaped a flexible yet rooted artistic identity.

Godkhindi’s career spans several decades of concert performances at major Indian classical music festivals, including Tansen Samaroh, Sawai Gandharva, and the Delhi International Arts Festival. His international tours have taken him to the United States, Canada, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East, where he presents both classical recitals and fusion projects. His work in music production includes television themes, devotional albums, and award-winning film scores, earning national recognition from the President of India for two feature films.

He is also known for collaborations with leading figures such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Jasraj, Dr. Balamuralikrishna, and Kadri Gopalnath. His fusion ensemble "Krishna" and his many recordings demonstrate his interest in expanding the flute’s presence in contemporary and cross-cultural settings. Coming from a rare lineage of three generations of flautists, Pravin Godkhindi holds a significant place among modern bansuri artists, contributing to both artistic continuity and innovation.
