Prathibha Prahlad is an Indian Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and cultural organizer. She is the founder of the Delhi International Arts Festival and a recipient of the Padma Shri.

Biography

Prathibha Prahlad (born 29 January 1962 in Mysuru, India) is an Indian classical dancer, choreographer, educator, and arts administrator known for her work in Bharatanatyam. She received her early training under distinguished gurus, including U. S. Krishna Rao, Kalanidhi Narayanan, and V. S. Muthuswamy Pillai, and also studied Kuchipudi under Vempati Chinna Satyam. By the age of twenty, she had established herself as a professional performer and began presenting Bharatanatyam recitals across major cultural platforms in India.

Over the course of her career, Prathibha Prahlad has presented more than 3000 performances in India and internationally, appearing at festivals and cultural events in over 80 countries. She is the artistic director and choreographer of the Prasiddha Dance Repertory, a group known for presenting thematic productions that combine classical dance vocabulary with contemporary narratives. Her works include large-scale dance productions such as Panchajanya—Sights and Sounds of India, Vande Mataram, and Warrior Women of Bharat, which have been staged at international festivals and cultural events.

Beyond performance, Prathibha Prahlad is also a cultural organizer and founder-director of the Delhi International Arts Festival, one of India’s prominent multidisciplinary arts festivals. She heads the Prasiddha Foundation and the Forum for Art Beyond Borders, organizations dedicated to promoting arts and cultural exchange. Her contributions to Indian classical dance and cultural diplomacy have been recognized with several honors, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Padma Shri in 2016.
