Prakash Sontakke is a voice in Indian music, recognized as the only musician from Karnataka who performs on the slide guitar in a classical and contemporary framework. As an A-grade artist of Akashvani and Doordarshan, he has built a career shaped by discipline, innovation, and sustained performance, with more than 2,000 concerts to his credit.
His work as a composer has gained international recognition. He is associated with a Grammy-nominated album and stands as the only Indian musician to have won both the Independent World Music Award in the United States and the Nashville Composer Award, where his composition was chosen over that of maestro Ilaiyaraaja.
Prakash has toured widely with several distinctive projects. The Prakash Sontakke Group explores neoclassical fusion, Lehera presents world fusion in an international trio format, Moonarra blends jazz with classical expression, and New Life brings a Sufi world-fusion sound in collaboration with percussionist Sivamani and vocalist Runa Rizvi. Through these platforms, he continues to redefine the slide guitar in Indian and global music.
