Biography
Smt. Prachala Amonkar, born on 9 October 1971, is a respected Hindustani classical vocalist with an established presence in both performance and pedagogy. Based in Goa, she has been actively involved in the region’s cultural and musical landscape for several decades.
She holds an A-grade artist in All India Radio (Akashvani) and Doordarshan, reflecting her proficiency and recognition in the classical music system. Her classical repertoire includes ragas such as Deskar, Yaman, Lalitagauri, and Kamod, and she has performed at notable platforms, including the Alladiya Khan Sangeet Samaroh in Mumbai.
Alongside her performance career, Smt. Amonkar has made a significant contribution to music education. She served as a music trainer at Kala Academy, Goa, for nearly twenty years, where she was involved in training and mentoring students in classical vocal music.
In the field of recorded music, she is the lead vocalist of the Marathi album Mann Ek Pakharu, which includes well-known tracks such as “Daatun Aale” and “Mann Majhe.” For this work, she received a nomination for Best Singer (Female) at the Chitrapadharpan Awards in 2014.
In addition to solo concerts, Smt. Prachala Amonkar has extensive experience as a vocal accompanist for Kathak dance, contributing her voice to classical dance productions and performances.
