Parthasarathi Mukherjee is a distinguished Tabla exponent of the Benares Gharana, known for his clarity of sound, refined sense of rhythm, and profoundly musical approach to accompaniment. He began learning tabla at the age of four under his father, Shri Ashok Kumar Mukherjee. He later trained extensively under the legendary Pandit Samta Prasad, inheriting the gharana's rich repertoire and style.
He has performed widely across India and internationally, appearing at major festivals and collaborating with leading vocalists and instrumentalists. Equally respected as a soloist and accompanist, he is admired for his sensitivity, precision, and powerful yet graceful rhythmic presentation.
Before moving to the UK in 1994, he served as a lecturer in tabla at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. Today, he remains an essential ambassador of Indian classical percussion, sharing the depth of the Benares tradition with global audiences.
