Biography

Padmavati Gokhale Shaligram (1918 – 20 July 2014) was a Hindustani vocalist, instrumentalist, and music educator from Kolhapur, Maharashtra.

Her singing style reflected elements of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana with influence from the Kirana gharana. She performed across India before and after independence and was associated with teaching and training students.

She trained several disciples and contributed to the performance and acceptance of forms such as thumri. She was also associated with institutions, including ITC Sangeet Research Academy.

She received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1988 and the Kalidas Award in 1994–95.

Padmavati Gokhale Shaligram died on 20 July 2014 in Mumbai.
