Over a career of more than forty years, he has been active in vocal performance across classical and related music forms.

His training under senior musicians and his concert experience in India and abroad have contributed to his development as a performer. His concerts often include classical repertoire as well as compositions suited for dance, where attention to bhava (expression) is an important element.

O. S. Arun has received recognition at international, national, and state levels, reflecting his standing in the Carnatic music field.

Beyond performance, he is involved in the promotion of arts and community-oriented initiatives. He founded the Alapana Foundation in 1998, with a focus on cultural exchange, music education, and exploring the role of music in well-being and community contexts.

Through initiatives such as Ratna Sangamam, his work has included outreach programs for underserved communities, senior citizens, and individuals with special needs. These efforts connect music with social and educational engagement.
