Nishit Gangani

Nishit Gangani belongs to a lineage deeply rooted in North Indian classical music and dance. He is part of the Jaipur Gharana tradition and represents the third generation of a family associated with Kathak and percussion. His grandfather, Pt. Kundanlal Gangani, was a leading Kathak guru, and his father, Shri Yogesh Gangani, is a practicing percussionist. Nishit received formal tabla training under Pt. Fateh Singh Gangani began his musical education at the age of three.

From early childhood, he performed in public concerts and festivals, establishing himself as a young practitioner of Hindustani rhythm traditions. His performances have included events such as Vasant Utsav (organized for Pt. Birju Maharaj’s 80th birthday), the Dum Dum Classical Music Festival in Kolkata, and the Lalit Arpan Festival. He has accompanied senior musicians, including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and has also engaged in cross-genre collaborations with contemporary performers.

In recent years, Gangani has expanded his presence beyond conventional concert stages. He maintains active profiles on digital platforms, where he publishes short-form performances, “one-take” recordings, and experimental videos. These include format-driven works such as his “Tabla vs Train” performance video. In January 2025, he announced the release of new tabla tracks for his YouTube channel.

His international engagements have included a solo performance in Singapore in late 2024. As of early 2026, he is scheduled to perform a solo concert at the Naamdhari Sikh Gurudwara in Leeds, United Kingdom, on 14 February 2026. Through live concerts and digital media, Nishit Gangani’s work reflects both the continuity of gharana-based training and the evolving contexts of tabla performance.
