Biography
Mugdha Vaishampayan was born in Alibaug, Maharashtra, to Bhagwan and Bhagyashree Vaishampayan. Her musical ability was identified at an early age, and she received foundational training from Sunil Mhatre, Sheetal Kunte, Anuradha Velankar, and her father. In 2008, she auditioned for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi Li’l Champs, becoming one of the top five finalists selected from thousands of children across Maharashtra. Her participation brought her statewide recognition, and she came to be known in the Konkan region as “Raigad Kanya” (Daughter of Raigad).
During the competition, she received the title Raigad Bhushan from the Raigad Zilha Parishad, making her one of the youngest recipients of an award conferred by an elected government body. In 2010–2011, she served as an anchor for Season 2 of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi Li’l Champs on Zee Marathi.
Her playback career began in 2010 with the Hindi television series Kashi (NDTV Imagine). She went on to sing for Marathi films, including Taaryaanche Bayt (2011), Let’s Go Back (2010), Ya Gol Gol Dabyatala (2012), Chintamani (2014), and Ubuntu (2017). Her repertoire spans film music, devotional recordings, and independent projects.
Mugdha has performed widely at cultural festivals and public events, including Vasantotsav in Pune, Zee Gaurav Puraskar ceremonies, the Shrimant Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapati Music Festival, and large-scale Little Champs Live tours across India and abroad. These tours featured her alongside fellow contestants Aarya Ambekar, Prathamesh Laghate, Rohit Raut, and Kartiki Gaikwad, collectively known as Panch-Ratna. Her performances have also included appearances in devotional programs and special events in India and overseas.
In 2010, she became a brand ambassador for campaigns by Lokmat and Kalnirnay. She married fellow singer Prathamesh Laghate on 20 December 2023.
