About
Biography
Mehar-Jot Singh Sagoo is a young Indian classical tabla and jori artist based in the United Kingdom, emerging from a strong tradition of North Indian percussion. He began learning tabla at the age of six and continues his studies under the guidance of internationally respected percussionist Ustaad Surdarshan Singh Chana. His musical practice draws from both the Benaras and Punjab Gharanas, giving his playing a balance of rhythmic clarity, bold bayan expression, and traditional composition.
Alongside regular lessons, Mehar-Jot participates in intensive retreats and mentorship programs, allowing him to deepen his knowledge while also supporting younger learners within the community. His dedication has led to performances at notable events, including his return to the prestigious Festival of Tabla for a second year.
Currently in his final year of A-Levels, studying psychology, Philosophy and economics, he is interested in the growing field of music psychology—particularly how sound and rhythm influence mental well-being. As he continues to develop his artistry, Mehar-Jot aims to contribute both musically and academically to the wider world of Indian classical music.
