Medha Basu

Medha Basu is a Hindustani classical vocalist and researcher, currently a scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy (ITC SRA), Kolkata. Trained within the Guru-Shishya Parampara, she has established herself as a performing artist across prominent classical music platforms in India, with a repertoire rooted in khayal and semi-classical traditions.

Her musical repertoire includes ragas such as Bihag, Bageshri, Jog, Kamod, Hameer, and Maru Behag, along with semi-classical forms like Kajri and Nazrulgeeti. She is a regular performer at institutional concert series, including the ITC SRA Wednesday Recitals and Shrutinandan’s Tuesday Concerts, where she has performed under the guidance of Ajoy Chakrabarty. In 2025, she undertook a European tour that combined Hindustani classical performances with lecture demonstrations.

Alongside her performance career, Medha Basu is a Senior Research Scholar in Physics at Jadavpur University. Her doctoral research focuses on the neurocognition of music and emotions, examining the therapeutic potential of Indian classical music for mental health and well-being. Supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, her work bridges the disciplines of music and science, contributing to ongoing discussions on music therapy and cognitive research.
