Mavin Khoo

Mavin Khoo (born 30 April 1976, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a Bharatanatyam dancer of Malaysian origin working in the field of Indian classical dance and contemporary performance. He began his early Bharatanatyam training in Kuala Lumpur under Vatsala Sivadas and Vasuki Sivanesan at the Temple of Fine Arts. He also studied Odissi and Bharatanatyam with Ramli Ibrahim and trained in classical ballet with Lee Yu Pin.

His advanced Bharatanatyam training took place in Chennai under the noted guru Adyar K. Lakshman, which shaped his foundation in the classical repertoire. In addition to Indian classical dance, he trained in the Cunningham technique in New York and pursued further ballet studies in London with several teachers.

Mavin Khoo has worked with contemporary choreographers such as Akram Khan and Wayne McGregor and has appeared as a guest artist with international dance companies, including Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and Ballet de Zaragoza.

He has created commissioned works for organizations such as the Royal Opera House (ROH2), Akademi, and the South Bank Centre in the UK, as well as for the Canada Dance Festival. His work includes both traditional Bharatanatyam performance and new choreographic projects.

Academically, he was a British Council scholar and completed postgraduate studies in choreography at Middlesex University, London. His career combines performance, choreography, and academic engagement in dance.

He is recognized internationally as a male Bharatanatyam soloist and as an artist working between classical and contemporary dance contexts.
