Matyas Wolter

Matyas Wolter is a Germany-based sitar and surbahar player recognized for his deep study of Hindustani classical raga music. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist in his early years, he explored genres like blues, punk, free jazz, and experimental music before dedicating himself to Indian classical traditions. During his musicology studies in Berlin, he trained under renowned sitar maestro Subroto Roy Chowdhury in Kolkata for over five years. After his guru’s passing, he continued learning under sarod maestro Ustad Irfan Mohammed Khan of the Lucknow-Shahjahanpur gharana.
