Matthew Barley

Matthew Barley is a highly respected English cellist known for his innovative approach to music, blending classical traditions with contemporary styles and improvisation. Born on 2 May 1965 in London, England, he developed an early interest in music and went on to receive formal training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London as well as the Moscow Conservatoire. His strong academic background helped him build a solid foundation in classical music, which later became the base for his experimental and creative career. 

Barley first gained recognition when he made his London concerto debut performing Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto at the Barbican Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra.
