Biography
Manasvini Ramachandran is a multidisciplinary Bharatanatyam artist whose journey reflects a rare synthesis of classical dance, scientific inquiry, and heritage conservation. Raised in a culturally rich and artistic milieu, she began her Bharatanatyam training at a young age under the guidance of her mother and guru, Smt. Revathi Ramachandran. Over more than two decades of rigorous practice, she has developed a performance style rooted in traditional grammar while remaining intellectually expansive.
Alongside her dance training, Manasvini pursued academic studies in science, completing a B.Tech in Biotechnology from Anna University. Her interest in interdisciplinary knowledge led her to a Master of Fine Arts in Bharatanatyam from SASTRA University, where her research focused on aspects of tala and timekeeping in Indian dance, guided by Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. She further deepened her engagement with history and material culture through a master’s degree in conservation at the National Museum Institute, New Delhi, gaining hands-on experience in object documentation and conservation across national museums and heritage sites.
As a performer, Manasvini has presented over 500 live performances in India and abroad and has been part of numerous Bharatanatyam and theater productions. She has participated in notable works under the mentorship of Sri Sheejith Krishna and has toured internationally across the USA, Europe, Australia, Singapore, Armenia, and other countries. She is a graded “B” artist of Doordarshan Kendra and has received several prestigious honors, including the Bala Saraswathy Award, Yuva Kala Vipanchee, Yuva Kala Bharathi, Natana Bhava Padmam, and Natya Chudar.
Beyond performance, Manasvini is the principal of Kala Sadhanalaya, where she trains students in Bharatanatyam, and actively teaches dance to underprivileged children to make art accessible across social backgrounds. She is also the founder of Kadhir Conservation, an art conservation practice based in Chennai and Bengaluru, reflecting her commitment to safeguarding cultural heritage. Her work stands at the intersection of dance, research, education, and conservation, embodying a holistic approach to Indian classical arts.
