Mallar Rakshit is an Indian classical sarod artist and academician based in Kolkata. He is a senior disciple of Buddhadev Dasgupta and represents the Senia Shahjahanpur gharana, a lineage associated with structured raga development and clarity of instrumental articulation.

Training and Lineage

As a disciple within the Senia Shahjahanpur tradition, Mallar Rakshit’s training reflects the stylistic framework shaped by his guru, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta. His performance approach is grounded in the traditional alap–jor–jhala architecture and gat presentation characteristic of the gharana.

He was an ‘A’ grade scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, an institution known for advanced training in Hindustani classical music.

Education

Mallar Rakshit holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Instrumental Classical Music (2012) from Rabindra Bharati University. His academic qualification complements his performance career within the Hindustani instrumental tradition.
