Mahesh Raghvan

Mahesh Raghvan’s musical journey began in early childhood. His parents recognized his interest in music at a young age, and he started learning Carnatic music at the age of three under the guidance of his aunt, Indira Krishnan. Alongside classical training, he explored multiple instruments, including piano, guitar, and synthesizer. He later completed eight grades in keyboard and music theory from Trinity College of Music, developing a structured understanding of Western harmony and composition.

His academic path combined music and technology. He earned a bachelor’s degree in audio production from SAE Dubai and a master’s degree in digital composition and performance from the University of Edinburgh. This background in Indian classical music, Western theory, and music technology shaped his approach to composition and performance, allowing him to work fluently across acoustic and digital platforms.

Mahesh is best known for creating and performing music using digital tools such as the iPad and the Geoshred application. His work adapts Carnatic ideas into contemporary formats, blending melodic structures, rhythmic cycles, and improvisation with electronic textures. His original compositions and reinterpretations have gained wide attention on digital platforms, where he maintains a large audience.

He is an active collaborator within Indian classical and world music circles. His projects include Carnatic 2.0 and The Thayir Sadam Project, both of which explore new formats for South Indian classical expression. He also serves as creative director at IndianRaga, an organization dedicated to promoting Indian fine arts among younger audiences and global communities.

Alongside composing and performing, Mahesh is involved in education and advisory roles. He serves on the Board of Advisors for Livdemy and has lectured in music production at universities. His work often bridges performance, composition, and pedagogy.

Mahesh is married to Hindustani classical violinist Nandini Shankar, with whom he frequently collaborates in recordings and live performances. Based in India, his career reflects an ongoing effort to connect Carnatic music with contemporary digital culture, international audiences, and evolving performance practices.
