Biography

Lalgudi Gopala Jayaraman Radhakrishnan, popularly known as G. J. R. Krishnan or Lalgudi Krishnan, is a distinguished Carnatic violinist, vocalist, and composer. He is the son and disciple of the legendary maestro Lalgudi G. Jayaraman.

Over the years, Krishnan has nurtured and propagated the legacy of the Lalgudi Bani while blending his own artistic sensibilities. His style is characterised by technical mastery, emotive bhava, rhythmic precision (laya), and a philosophical commitment to the principle that the violin should closely emulate the human voice.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian classical music, Lalgudi Krishnan was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2015, the highest Indian honour in the performing arts. Along with his sister, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, he was honoured with the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi Award from the Madras Music Academy in 2022, considered the highest accolade in Carnatic music.
