About
Biography
Kousic Sen is an internationally acclaimed Tabla exponent of the Banaras Gharana, known for his powerful yet sensitive playing, deep rhythmic insight, and remarkable versatility. Born into a musical family in Kolkata, he received his foundational training from his father. He later refined his art under respected gurus, developing a style that blends traditional purity with contemporary openness.
Over the years, Kousic Sen has become one of the most recognised Indian percussionists in the UK and Europe. His performances range from classical solo recitals and accompaniment for leading vocalists and instrumentalists to cross-cultural collaborations spanning jazz, world music, and contemporary ensembles. His rhythmic energy, clarity of bols and intuitive on-stage communication make him a favourite among audiences and fellow artists.
He has toured extensively across India, Europe, North America and Asia, performing at prestigious festivals, conservatories and cultural institutions. As Artist-in-Residence with Milap in Liverpool, he has played a key role in nurturing young musicians and promoting Indian classical rhythm to a global audience.
Beyond performance, Kousic Sen is committed to teaching and mentoring students worldwide, as well as conducting workshops, masterclasses, and long-term training programmes. His work reflects a deep commitment to both tradition and evolution, positioning him as a leading ambassador of the Tabla on the international stage.
