K. S. Narayanaswamy

K. S. Narayanaswamy (full name Koduvayur Sivarama Iyer Narayanaswamy) was a respected Carnatic veena player known for his refined and expressive style of playing. He was born on 27 September 1914 in Koduvayur. From a young age he showed a deep interest in music and began learning the veena, one of the most important instruments in South Indian classical music. His early musical environment helped him develop a strong foundation in Carnatic traditions.

Narayanaswamy received his initial training in classical music from members of his family and later continued learning under respected teachers of the Thanjavur style of veena playing. This style is known for its rich tone, strict discipline, and detailed interpretation of ragas. Through years of practice and dedication, he developed a distinctive style that emphasized clarity of notes, smooth gamakas (ornaments), and emotional depth.

During his career, Narayanaswamy performed in many classical music concerts and festivals across South India.
