Biography
Dr. Jay Ajgaonkar is an Indian vocalist associated with Hindustani classical and Marathi devotional music traditions. Based in Mumbai, he is known for balancing a professional career in medicine with active involvement in music performance. His repertoire includes classical compositions, devotional songs, and Marathi spiritual music presented in concerts and cultural programmes.
He completed his medical education at HBT Medical College and Dr. R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital in Mumbai, while continuing his engagement with music as a performer. Dr. Ajgaonkar is known for his participation in the musical program “Shabdmoti,” where he performs alongside Dhanashree Lele in a distinctive format featuring extended vocal presentations without instrumental accompaniment.
Much of his recorded repertoire focuses on devotional compositions, particularly songs dedicated to Shri Swami Samartha and other spiritual themes. He has also collaborated with noted playback and classical vocalist Suresh Wadkar on devotional tracks such as “Jayati Jayati Ganapati” and “Tuch Maay Baap Swami Tu.” In addition to recordings and concerts, he has participated in music competitions and was recognized as the 2nd runner-up in the Mumbai Dhadkan X Happydemic Singing Talent Hunt in 2021.
