About

Hiranmay Mitra is an Indian classical musician trained in tabla by Pandit Sanjay Mukherjee and harmonium by Pandit Sankar Chatterjee, excelling in rhythm and melodic accompaniment.

Biography

Hiranmay Mitra has cultivated a multidimensional career in Indian classical music, shaped by extensive training across disciplines and long-standing engagement with performance practice. His foundational training as a tabla player under Pandit Sanjay Mukherjee established a strong sense of rhythmic structure and improvisational vocabulary. Parallel training in harmonium from Pandit Sankar Chatterjee enabled him to develop a complementary melodic sensibility, supporting both solo and accompaniment contexts.

A significant aspect of his musical development lies in his vocal tutelage. Under guidance from Guru Shri Sidheshwar Mukhopadhyay, Pandit A. Kanan, Shri Sukumar Mitra, and Arun Chatterjee, he gained exposure to the stylistic depth of Hindustani classical music, particularly the khayal tradition. These experiences enriched his musicianship, enabling him to approach performance with a broader aesthetic viewpoint.
