Himanshu Nanda

Raised in a family influenced by literature and teaching, the artist’s early exposure to poetry and nature-inspired songs shaped his interest in music. He chose the bansuri as his primary instrument and began formal training at fourteen under Shri Narendra Panda and Shri Padma Charana Patra in Odisha.

His advanced musical formation took place under Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, with whom he studied for thirteen years in the Maihar Gharana tradition. He was among the first students to reside at Chaurasia’s Vrindavan Gurukul in Mumbai, an experience that shaped his understanding of Hindustani classical music and its philosophical foundations.

Through association with the Chinmaya Mission, he worked closely with Swami Tejomayananda and played a role in establishing Chinmaya Swaranjali, the Mission’s music wing. From 2009 to 2019, he served as Vision Director – Music for the Chinmaya Naada Bindu Gurukula for Performing Arts.

Parallel to his musical training, he has been a practitioner of Kriya Yoga since 1995. His academic background includes postgraduate studies in music, biology, education, and computer science, along with specialized courses in data analysis, biomedical applications, arts-based healing, autism studies, and cognitive science.

During his training under Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, he accompanied his guru at major concerts across India. He has since performed solo in India and internationally, including in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Japan, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the United States, with extended tours in the USA (2014) and Europe (2019).

With a focus on pedagogy, he has designed short-term residential intensives for bansuri students and developed The Mystic Bamboo, a structured series of online courses providing graded instruction to learners worldwide. His work integrates performance, education, and contemplative practice within the Hindustani classical music tradition.
