Biography
Harini Rao is an Indian Hindustani classical vocalist, playback singer, and teacher based in Hyderabad. She is known for her work in both classical and film music, as well as for her role as a music educator.
Trained in Hindustani classical music, she performs in India and internationally. Her concert work includes traditional recitals as well as collaborative formats such as Dastangoi (musical storytelling), where classical music is integrated with narrative performance.
Alongside classical concerts, Harini Rao has contributed as a playback singer in South Indian cinema. Her recordings include songs such as “Oka Lalana” from Jyo Achyutananda and tracks in films like Mahanati, Jathi Ratnalu, and Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi.
She is the founder of Raageshree Academy, where she teaches Hindustani classical music to students across age groups. Her work as a teacher includes regular training and mentorship.
Her independent music releases include projects such as Rukmini (2024), Lullaby (2025), and the series Devi—A Raagmala, reflecting her engagement with thematic and raga-based presentations.
Before moving into music full-time, she worked as a chartered accountant in corporate finance. Alongside her music career, she is associated with creative and consulting work, including managing a handmade terracotta jewellery brand and working in project management consulting.
She has also spoken publicly about mental health awareness, encouraging conversations around therapy and emotional well-being.
