About
Biography
Gurumayi Chidvilasananda was born near Mangalore, India, and grew up in a family devoted to Swami Muktananda. Her early exposure to Siddha Yoga began in childhood through regular visits to the Gurudev Siddha Peeth ashram at Ganeshpuri. At the age of fourteen, she received shaktipat initiation from Muktananda, marking a decisive spiritual turning point that led her to dedicate her life to yogic discipline and service.
In her early twenties, she served as Muktananda’s English-language translator and accompanied him on international teaching tours, gaining deep exposure to the transmission of Siddha Yoga philosophy. In 1982, she was initiated as a sannyasin into the Saraswati monastic order and received the name Swami Chidvilasananda. After Muktananda’s death the same year, she assumed leadership of the Siddha Yoga lineage, later continuing as its sole spiritual guide.
As a guru, Gurumayi has conducted Siddha Yoga Shaktipat Intensives across India, the Americas, Europe, and Asia, emphasizing meditation, chanting, and inner awakening. She founded and oversees institutions such as the SYDA Foundation and initiated humanitarian efforts like the PRASAD Project, which supports health, education, and sustainable development programs internationally. She also established the Muktabodha Indological Research Institute to preserve and publish classical Indian spiritual texts.
Gurumayi is the author of several devotional and spiritual works and has been widely recognized for her role in bringing Siddha Yoga teachings to a global audience, blending traditional lineage-based spirituality with modern institutional outreach.
