Biography

Ghulam Hasan Khan is a distinguished Hindustani classical vocalist belonging to the Rampur–Sahaswan Gharana, a revered musical lineage associated with the tradition of Miyan Tansen. He was introduced to music at the tender age of three under the guidance of his father, Ustad Ghulam Abbas Khan, an internationally acclaimed vocalist. His training was further enriched under the tutelage of his grandfather, Padma Shri Ustad Ghulam Sadiq Khan, who was regarded as one of India’s finest classical vocalists. This strong familial and stylistic foundation shaped his deep understanding of raga, tala, and voice culture.

Blessed with a sonorous and well-modulated voice, Ghulam Hasan Khan specializes in the Khayal form, where his music reflects a systematic and well-paced badhat, graceful fast sapat taans spanning three octaves, smooth meend, and carefully structured sargam passages interwoven with rhythmic clarity. In addition to Khayal, he renders Thumri, Tarana, Ghazal, Geet, Sufi, and Bhajan with equal ease, demonstrating versatility across classical and semi-classical genres. His command over tonal variation, dynamics, and timbre control is widely appreciated.

He has been performing regularly in India and abroad since the age of seven and has appeared at numerous prestigious festivals, including the Poorvi Music Foundation Festival, SILSILA Festival, Lalit Kala Academy concerts, Aarohi by Pancham Nishad, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Yaadgar Sabha, Malhar Utsav (ICCR), ITC Music Festival at NCPA Mumbai, Summer Music Festival at IIC, Young Ustads of India Festival, Thumri Festival Delhi, and HCL Concerts. A landmark moment in his career was his performance at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2007 in the presence of former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

Internationally, Ghulam Hasan Khan has represented Indian classical music at platforms such as Hong Kong University and has performed across Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, the UK, Nepal, Bhutan, and Hong Kong. He has been a graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan since 2018 and an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations since 2017. His contributions have been recognized with awards, including the Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan National Award and scholarships from Sahitya Kala Parishad, Delhi, and NCPA, Mumbai.

Currently, he serves as a senior consultant at T-Series Stageworks Academy, Noida, and runs UGSK Academy in Delhi, founded in memory of his grandfather, where he trains students in the classical traditions of the Rampur–Sahaswan Gharana, continuing its rich legacy through teaching and performance.
