Garima Arya

Dr. Garima Arya is a Kathak dancer, choreographer, and educator associated with the Lucknow Gharana, one of the principal traditions of Kathak. A disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj and trained under Pandit Deepak Maharaj, her work reflects a strong grounding in traditional compositions combined with a contemporary choreographic approach developed over more than 25 years of practice and performance.

She has performed at established platforms such as Kathak Sandhya, organized by the Rashtriya Kathak Sansthan in Lucknow, and the Sarb Akal International Classical Music Festival. Her performances are characterized by clarity of technique, expressive abhinaya, and adherence to the aesthetic principles of the Lucknow tradition, while also engaging with new thematic interpretations.

As the founder of Kalakulam, Dr. Arya conducts both online and offline training programmes, making Kathak education accessible to a wider audience. Through international workshops in locations such as Guangzhou and Calgary, and through her initiative “Kathak Kollective,” she contributes to the dissemination, collaborative practice, and continued evolution of Kathak in contemporary contexts.
